Corner Restaurant at Old Phuket Town

We always love to eat like the locals when visiting a new place. And since we knew we weren't going to get good cheap food at Patong beach area, we decided to drive out to old Phuket town for some authentic Thai food. Boy, was the trip worth it! We had a tough time finding good restaurants there since there're not many published information on the web on cheap eats at Phuket town. So we practically drove around the town in circle, until we decided to ask someone at the Travel agency. The manager there was kind enough to recommend a Thai restaurant just around the corner and we were soooo glad we asked her! We had the best fried rice, kuay Teow Noodle soup and tom yam noodles EVER! The Thai Ice Tea was absolutely delicious too! :) Best meal in Phuket so far! Gan: Agreed! Best meal we had in Phuket.

I can still taste the fried rice....it's that good.

Gan decided to order the Tom Yam noodles which I didn't try since I am allergic to spicy food. lol... but he said it was really spicy but good! Gan: Springy instant noodle-like dish with pork offals in spicy tom yam soup... can't beat that.

Big C Supermarket

We decided to check out Phuket's Big C supermarket since we've read about the foodcourt. Once there, we detoured and checked out the supermarket instead. Very interesting :)

Banyan Cafe, Banyan Tree Resort




There are a couple of days when we got rained in at Banyan Tree, so decided to eat in the resort's cafe. We ordered Pad Thai and seafood noodles. Both are decent, but pricey.

The Famous Baan Rim Pa Restaurant. We thought the food was just ok, nothing special. Sripraphai in Woodhaven Queens is ten times better and ten times cheaper. The restaurant was built on top of the cliff looking down on the ocean, so it's definitely the ideal place for romantic dinners ;) Gan: It's on top of a cliff, overlooking Patong beach.

Steam fish with tamarind, chilli, lime and fish sauce. Not bad....

It was not easy to find out where the best food in Phuket are as there are so many places targeting tourists. We decided to try Savoey on Patong Beach anyways since it's really popular among visitors. The lobster sashimi was refreshing and the crab with glass noodles was surprisingly good. They charged American/European price for the food though, so it was quite pricey. However, I would recommend this restaurant if you are at Patong area and is looking for somewhere decent to eat. Gan: I remembered we were arguing before we got here.. must be over something silly like my superior sense of direction or her lousy map reading skills. She was much happier after sending the poor lobster into the kitchen. That was how I remembered our first fresh lobster sashimi.

Delicious crab glass noodles at Savoey. Tasty and spicy! Gan: The peppery taste and crab juice that seeped into the glass noodle made the noodle the star of the dish.
